About Us
Since 2019, AdaptAbilities has been empowering others and providing switch adapted toys and devices at a more affordable price. Large toy manufacturers simply don’t make toys that are accessible for everyone, and adapted toys are usually listed for double or triple their original price. The options can be few and far between, and often toys are only available for children 10 and younger, leaving few options for teens and adults.
AdaptAbilities strives to face these issues head-on by providing affordable switch adapted toys and devices that serve all age ranges, giving anyone with disabilities the accessibility they deserve.
AdaptAbilities is growing quickly, and we’re excited to be able to support more people and fulfill more orders faster with an expanded team. Thank you to everyone who has supported us over the years, and we hope to continue making an even greater impact in the lives of all our customers for a long time to come.
Our Story
I started AdaptAbilities out of a need I recognized in local schools while working as a licensed speech language pathologist (SLP). My students needed adapted toys in their classrooms, but there simply wasn’t enough funding to always make it happen. When I searched online for adapted toys, I could see even clearer why. I learned how to solder and make toys usable with adapted switches, and enjoyed doing it––even more so when I saw the impact it made for the kids I worked with.
Knowing how expensive adapted toys were on the market, I wanted to make these toys accessible for everyone, so AdaptAbilities was born in 2019 with a small selection on Etsy. AdaptAbilities has grown over the years from a handful of orders to more than I could handle alone, with a growing selection of toys and devices shipped all over the US and to over 20 countries, from Canada to Spain, China, and Australia.
I’ve greatly enjoyed doing custom orders on beloved toys and getting to know many of you who have returned again and again and shared your stories with me. These personal interactions are what make this work so meaningful, and in the coming years of AdaptAbilities, I hope to be able to give back and empower our community even more!
Meet our Founder, Hannah
Hi! I’m a licensed SLP and AAC/AT specialist who worked in the public school setting for 5 years and a proud Baylor University alum for both my BA and MS. I’m proud to be a disabled woman business owner and licensed practitioner who you can trust really understands you and/or your children’s needs. My experience has always overflowed into my passion and care for taking care of this community, and now as the mother of two beautiful boys with disabilities, this passion runs even stronger. I’m thankful for all the professionals who support me and my family, and I feel blessed to be able to help others through AdaptAbilities. When not working, I’m probably reading self-help books, binge-watching true crime shows, or spending quality time with my lovely husband Grant and my two boys. Feel free to message me or say hello if you see me at a conference or trade show!
